Renesting Great Horned Owls
Great Horned Owlets are born late winter/early spring in Michigan. Many times they are blown from their nests or the nests are poorly constructed and they fall to the ground. Great Horned Owls use other birds' nests, they do not construct their own. WILDSIDE received 2 Great Horned Owlets this spring and were able to renest them in make shirt laundry basket nests. Thanks to Angela and her husband in Holly, MI who were able to renest 3 Great Horned Owlets. 2 of the owlets were the original babies from the nest and the third was from another nest that could not be used for renesting. All 3 babies are doing well. Jonah and Darlene were able to renest another owlet in Eaton Rapids, MI successfully. All of the birds are growing and doing well. We thank the homeowners, the rescuers and the renesters for all of their hard work!
